about.

Latifa Tee, AKA Latifa Tasipale, has found many avenues for her undying passion for music: DJ, radio host at triple j, recording artist and all-round personality, she's become a nationwide staple for her charismatic embrace of hip-hop, R&B & dance music.

She was first introduced to music through her DJ Dad; on the day she came home from hospital, her Dad excitedly played Tupac’s All Eyez On Me and Biggie’s Juicy – to a 3-day-old baby… and she’s been hooked ever since.

Born and raised in Roselands, on the traditional lands of the Cadigal, Wangal and Bediagal clans of the Dharug tribe, she is a leader in the so-called Australian music industry, advocating for diversity, accessibility, representation & visibility. As a proud queer, Samoan-GuriNgai woman with a Bachelor of Arts/Laws from the University of Sydney under her belt, she prides herself on speaking her mind, sharing resources and skills, and facilitating discussions on arts policy & the swiftly evolving – and growing – music industry in so-called Australia.

As a DJ, Latifa brings a contemporary edge to her traditional upbringing behind the decks, having played alongside international heavy-hitters like EARTHGANG, ASAP Ferg and Jaden Smith, as well as homegrown heroes like ChillinIt, Kwame, Hayden James, Confidence Man, and Vera Blue.

She's performed to thousands of punters at mainstay festivals like Splendour In The Grass, Beyond The Valley, Spilt Milk, Day Trip Festival, Deep Hard N Funky (NZ), Summer Camp Festival and Oktoberfest. Latifa also brings her undeniable stage presence to DJ live performances for Sydney R&B vocalists Becca Hatch and A.GIRL, as well as rapper Kobie Dee, solidifying her strong roots in so-called Sydney's emerging creative scenes. Every weekend, she soundtracks dancef loors in nightclubs across the country, and locally, she’s a regular at events like Lost Sundays, Heaps Gay, GiRLTHING. You name a party, she's played it.

Staying true to her mission of supporting Australian music, Latifa has just been handed the keys to the Mix Up kingdom as the new host and producer of triple j’s dance music show on Saturdays from 9pm-1am. She’s also the host of The Nudge, triple j’s dedicated dance music show, airing Fridays from 10pm-1am. On The Nudge, Latifa hand-selects the finest dance music from all across the globe and DJs live for listeners across the country.

Latifa joins the triple j team after a 3 year run as a presenter on Sydney community radio station FBi Radio and was also recently featured on 'The Estelle Show' on Apple Music, the program hosted by the world-class singer. Latifa has also curated guest mixes on triple j programs The Kick On and Mix Up, FBi Radio programs Switch and Midday Mix, and has provided mixes for Source Radio (France) and Saturday Selects (Malaysia).

As an interviewer, Latifa has interviewed a vast array of artists across genres and localities. At FBi Radio, Latifa prided herself on giving a platform to local artists on the rise, as well as connecting global musicians to Sydney listeners; from Phil Fresh, to Nerve, Mulalo, Mahalia, B Wise and June Jones, she always asked the right questions to provide fans with insight into their artistry, cultures & stories. At triple j, she’s interviewed international superstars like Fred again.. and Mall Grab, hosted Bars of Steel with Dallas Woods, and hosted the likes of Steve Aoki, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Sam Divine, TSHA, UNIIQU3, Conducta, Steel City Dance Discs & more on her program, Mix Up.

Having released her debut album titled When A Girl Loves in Japan at just 17 years old, Latifa has had multiple songs reach #1 on the R&B charts. Her debut single, Games, has clocked over 800,000 streams on Spotify with no playlist support. Her music has also been played on commercial radio stations such as KIIS-FM and Power 106 in Los Angeles, as well as locally on KIIS FM, 2Day FM and The Fox. Latifa made a return to music in 2020 with 'Cupid' and the accompanying '(Midnight Edit)', marking a new sound and direction for the independent artist.

Latifa has also worked with brands including JD Sports for their lengthy JD Women’s Month initiative, where she proudly represented women in the streetwear scene and was the face of four product launches for Nike, Puma, adidas and Asics. She also teamed with them for the launch of JD Radio, and was the first DJ recruited to record an hour long guest mix for JD’s IGTV. Not to mention, Latifa has done all of this whilst finishing her law degree at the University of Sydney, volunteering with UN Youth, and serving on the board of the Australian Children's Music Foundation as Youth Ambassador..
